Acne :
Common type of acne is called as acne vulgaris and commonly we call it pimples. It is more likely to occur during changes in hormones as in teenage, during pregnancy or near menstrual cycle. It is commonly seen in face, neck, back, shoulder and chest.
Your skin is covered by tiny little pores which connects the surface of skin to underlying sebaceous gland which secretes an oily substance called “Sebum”. When this sebum is secreted in large quantity it blocks the pore and gradually forms pimple.
It is tempting, but popping or squeezing a pimple won’t necessarily get rid of the problem. Squeezing can push pus and bacteria deeper into the skin resulting in more swelling and redness. In long run it leads to scar and might leave you with permanent scar. So, avoid popping or squeezing.
Acne vulgaris manifests various types of skin blemishes including – White heads, Black heads, Papules, Pustules.
Psoriasis :
These are red, itchy, scaly patches. It is a long term chronic disease. It tends to go through cycles. Flaring for a few weeks or months then subsiding for a while and goes into remission. It can effect various parts common being –
* Nails – Thickened, pitted or rigid nails.
* Joints – Swollen and stiff joints, it is generally complication and is called as psoriatic arthropathy.
* Penis – Scale on glans.
* Scalp – Scalp psoriasis, commonly thought as dandruff.
Vitiligo :
It is depigmentation of skin in patches anywhere in the body, it can also effect hair and inside of the mouth. Discoloured area gets bigger with time. Normally colour of skin and nail is determined by melanin. Vitiligo occurs when cell producing melanin dies or stop functioning. This condition is not life threatening or contagious. Ofcourse, it can be stressful or make you feel bad about yourself.
Warts :
These are raised bump on your skin caused by human papiloma virus. There are various types of warts which have distinct appearance and location like –
* Common warts – On fingers and toes, they are rough, grainy appearance and rounded top.
* Plantar warts – On soles and feet. Unlike other warts it grows into your skin leaving a small hole at the bottom of feet surrounded by hardened skin.
* Flat warts – On face, thigh or arms.
* Filliform warts – On or around neck, mouth, nose. They seems small, tiny flap or tag of skin.
* Periungual warts – Around toe nails or finger nails. They can be painful and effect nail growth.
* Genital warts – On genital organ. Should not take it lightly as it might be sign of some severe infection.
Ring Worm :
It is a type of fungal infection which can occur anywhere in the body and its name and features depends on the area where it had effected. Its general features is Red, itchy or scaly patches, or raised area of skin, the patch can be redder on the outside edges or resemble a ring. As per the area effected it is called as –
* On scalp – Tinea capitis.
* On body – Tinea corporis.
* In groin – Tinea cruris.
* On foot – Tinea pedis.
* In Nails – Tinea unguium.
It spreads from contact so one should practice cleanliness and avoid articles used by the infected persons like hair brush, towels, soap, etc.
Alopecia :
Hair falls out in small patches which can be initially unnoticeable but when these patches connect it becomes apparent. Sudden hair loss may occur on scalp and in some cases from eyebrows, eyelashes or beards as well as from other body parts. When there is total absence of hair in the body it is called Alopecia universalis.
Other hair problems like – premature graying of hairs, lustureless hairs, rough hairs, no growth of hairs, no increase in length of hairs, can all be tackled.
